ADB unveils $70 billion push for Southeast Asia power and digital infrastructure

ADB energy infrastructure plan targets Asia-Pacific growth and lower costs Southeast Asia stands to gain most as grids and digital links expand

The Asian Development Bank has announced a $70 billion plan to support energy and digital infrastructure across AsiaPacific, with Southeast Asia expected to benefit the most. The program includes efforts to connect power grids across borders and expand digital networks, with funding for projects targeted through 2035. ADB President Masato Kanda said the initiative is meant to improve regional connectivity, lower costs, and expand access to reliable electricity and digital services. Analysts said Southeast Asia is likely to see the biggest impact because many of its countries still need major upgrades in energy interconnection and digital infrastructure. Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are expected to receive the largest share of funding, while Malaysia and Thailand may also gain from projects tied to data centers and regional energy networks. ADB also aims to help integrate nearly 20 gigawatts of renewable energy and build 22,000 circuitkilometers of transmission lines by 2035.
