Maritimes expected to face rain, wind and possible snow as storm arrives

Maritimes storm brings heavy rain, strong winds and possible snow Sunday Check ferry updates, bridge advisories and outages as conditions worsen

Environment Canada says a lowpressure system moving into the Maritimes on Sunday is bringing strong winds, heavy rain and possible snow to parts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and southern New Brunswick. Rainfall totals of about 25 to 40 millimetres are expected from Sunday afternoon into early Monday, with snow mixed in at higher elevations. Wind gusts could reach 100 km/h in western Cape Breton. The weather has already affected travel and infrastructure. Northumberland Ferries warned that service between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia could be cancelled, while Marine Atlantic cancelled several crossings between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The Confederation Bridge also issued a wind advisory, with traffic restrictions expected Monday. In Halifax, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge temporarily closed after wind blew unassembled construction materials onto the roadway. No one was hurt, and officials said the bridge would reopen after crews cleared the debris and completed safety checks. Nova Scotia Power also reported outages affecting more than 6,000 customers in western Nova Scotia as the storm moved through the region.
