Vancouver mayoral race: Stephanie Allen withdraws to unite progressive voters See how the move could reshape the contest before the Sept. 11 deadline
Stephanie Allen of the Coalition of Progressive Electors has withdrawn from Vancouver's mayoral race, saying the move is meant to reduce the number of progressive candidates in a crowded contest against incumbent Mayor Ken Sim.
Speaking outside Vancouver City Hall on Wednesday, Allen said the decision followed an agreement among progressive parties earlier this year and was intended to avoid splitting the vote. She did not endorse either the Greens or OneCity, saying she wanted to stay within Elections B.C. rules.
After Allen's announcement, Green candidate Pete Fry said he was still focused on winning and said there is time for further talks before the Sept. 11 registration deadline. OneCity candidate William Azaroff said he was disappointed by Fry's comments and said negotiations should continue.
