B.C. Conservatives cancel leader’s appearance amid election speculation

BC Conservatives cancel Lorne Doerkson event as snap election fears grow Find out what the move signals for caucus unity and B.C.'s political outlook

The British Columbia Conservatives have cancelled a planned appearance by new interim leader Lorne Doerkson and caucus members, saying the move was prompted by the possibility of an early provincial election. The cancellation comes as expectations rise that Premier David Eby could call a snap election following a series of campaignstyle announcements. Doerkson had been set to hold a news conference in Richmond, B.C., which would have marked his first public event with caucus members since being appointed after KerryLynne Findlay resigned on Sunday. The party has also been working to present a united front after recent internal turmoil. Its caucus grew to 29 members on Monday after five MLAs returned to the group, including some who had quit recently or were removed during Findlay’s leadership.
