Micro-shelter village under construction in Scarborough
Scarborough micro-shelter village brings transitional housing for people Reserve Brent’s Place updates as the 10-unit project moves through review
A 10unit microshelter village is being built on a plot of land in Scarborough as community advocates work to create transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness.
The project, called Brent’s Place, is led by Tiny Tiny Homes executive director Ryan Donais. The site is planned to include a common area, a staffing office and a social work office where residents can meet with doctors and support workers.
Donais said the goal is to help people move from the street toward more stable housing. The land is being leased by Sefonias Catering for $1 a year over three years, and the family behind the business has also supported the project with donated time and materials. The City of Toronto says the plan is still under review and must meet zoning, building and other regulatory requirements before it can proceed.
