Conservative MP Scott Aitchison expected to resign this fall

Scott Aitchison resignation could soon open Parry Sound-Muskoka, CBC reports See what his exit means for Conservatives, housing, and the next by-election

Conservative MP Scott Aitchison is expected to resign his seat later this fall, according to sources cited by CBC News. Aitchison has represented the Ontario riding of Parry SoundMuskoka since winning the seat in 2019. Sources say Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was told last week that Aitchison plans to leave at the end of the fall sitting, and the departure could be announced soon. Aitchison previously ran for the Conservative leadership in 2022, finishing fifth. During that contest, housing was a central issue, and Poilievre later named him as the party’s housing critic. His departure would add to a series of recent exits from federal politics and create another vacancy in the House of Commons.
