FCA opens crypto authorization window ahead of 2027 UK regime
UK crypto regulation: FCA opens applications for new authorization rules Prepare early for stablecoins, trading platforms and market abuse oversight
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority has begun accepting applications from crypto businesses that want authorization under a new regulatory regime set to start on Oct. 25, 2027.
Companies that plan to keep operating in the UK are expected to apply by the end of February 2027. The FCA said it aims to review applications submitted in that period before the new rules take effect.
The framework expands oversight beyond antimoney laundering and financial promotion rules and includes requirements for stablecoin issuance, crypto trading platforms and market abuse. Industry groups said firms should treat the process as a new authorization, since existing money laundering registrations will not automatically transfer.
