Ontario police officer charged after pepper spray use following arrest

London police officer charged after pepper spray incident raises use-of-force concerns See what investigators found and how the case now moves forward

A London, Ontario police officer has been charged after investigators said he used pepper spray on a woman after her arrest earlier this year. Police said the 33yearold woman was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. on April 29. The force said the use of pepper spray triggered mandatory reporting and review procedures in Ontario. During that review, concerns were raised about the officer’s use of force, and the case was referred to the Major Crime Section to examine possible criminal conduct. Const. Brandon Mihalides is now facing one count of assault with a weapon and has been reassigned to nonoperational administrative duties.
