Five MLAs return to B.C. Conservative caucus as election looms
BC Conservative caucus reunites as five MLAs, including John Rustad, return Amid election speculation, the Opposition aims to stabilize and unite fast
Five British Columbia Conservative MLAs, including former leader John Rustad, have been readmitted to the party caucus as interim leader Lorne Doerkson works to steady the Opposition ahead of a possible provincial election.
The readmitted members are Rustad, former interim leader Trevor Halford, and MLAs Scott McInnis, Linda Hepner and Claire Rattée. Their return follows weeks of internal turmoil that led to resignations and expulsions within the caucus.
Rustad said his leadership role is over, but he remains focused on serving the province. He also said talks with the breakaway CentreBC party are continuing and could lead to a reunified opposition before any election call. Meanwhile, the governing NDP has been discussing its own election readiness as speculation grows that Premier David Eby could call a snap vote soon.
