Peter Nygard found guilty of sexual assault in Montreal

A Quebec court judge in Montreal has found fashion mogul Peter Nygard guilty of sexual assault and forcible confinement. The 84yearold, who founded the former women’s clothing company Nygard International, entered a plea deal and did not call any evidence in his defence. He appeared by video from an Ontario prison. The Quebec case is separate from his 2023 Toronto conviction on four sexual assault charges, for which he received an 11year sentence. Prosecutors said the case involved a woman who was 18 when she met Nygard in Montreal while hoping to become a model. Court documents say he later lured her to his penthouse, where he locked her in a bedroom and sexually assaulted her. Sentencing was delayed until after a medical assessment, and lawyers are due back in court on Oct. 2 with a joint recommendation.
