Pope Leo XIV begins four-day visit to France
Pope Leo XIV’s France visit highlights faith, unity, and public life Follow his Paris, Notre-Dame, and Lourdes stops as he addresses key issues
Pope Leo XIV began a fourday visit to France on Friday, marking his first formal papal trip to the country since 2008. The visit includes meetings in Paris, a prayer service at NotreDame Cathedral, and a stop in Lourdes, with events centered on faith, public life, and unity.
French Church leaders say the trip comes as interest in Catholicism has grown, especially among young adults. The Vatican also plans for Pope Leo to meet privately with abuse victims in Lourdes, reflecting the Church’s ongoing efforts to address past misconduct and seek healing.
During the visit, Pope Leo is scheduled to deliver multiple speeches on topics including human dignity, immigration, peace, and the impact of artificial intelligence. He will also speak at UNESCO in Paris and end the trip in Metz, where the Vatican says he will emphasize cooperation among European nations.
