President Donald Trump said on Monday that Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is doing a “fantastic” job, while criticizing other central bank officials for being too political and, in his view, having “bad intentions.”
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump argued that U.S. interest rates should be lower and said the country should have the lowest rates in the world. His remarks came two days before the Fed’s next policy announcement.
Markets are expecting the Federal Open Market Committee to keep rates unchanged, though traders still see a chance of a quarterpoint increase. Several Fed officials have recently said inflation remains too high, and some have called for tighter policy rather than cuts.
