Trump administration expands 'Product of USA' label for meat and poultry

The Trump administration said on Friday that 10 more companies will be allowed to use the “Product of USA” label on meat and poultry that comes from U.S. farms and ranches. The change is part of a USDA effort to make food origin labeling clearer for shoppers.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the label is meant to help consumers identify products from animals born, raised, harvested, and processed in the United States. She said the policy also supports family farmers, independent ranchers, and smaller meat processors.
The USDA updated its standard for American meat in 2024 after criticism that earlier rules could let imported meat be labeled as U.S.made if it was only processed domestically. The department also recently launched a separate program offering up to $500 million to help small and midsized beef processors expand domestic capacity.
