No jail time in Surrey bus stop crash case

A man involved in a deadly impaireddriving crash in Surrey, British Columbia, will not spend any additional time in jail after pleading guilty to a lesser Motor Vehicle Act offence.
Michael Gordon Bovencamp received an 18month probation order, a oneyear driving ban and a $1,500 fine in connection with the Oct. 5, 2024 collision near 144 Street and Hyland Drive. Police said the Ford F350 he was driving crossed into oncoming traffic and struck two pedestrians.
One of the pedestrians, 33yearold Saraj Singh, died at the scene, while the other suffered serious injuries. Court heard Bovencamp had used cannabis earlier that day, but blood tests later showed THC levels just below the legal limit and no evidence that he was impaired. The court also heard he may have suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel.
