Cruz and Vance trade jabs over 2028 Republican ambitions
Ted Cruz 2028 rumors spark after clash with JD Vance over presidential ambitions. See why the GOP feud matters as both men court voters and future power.
Sen. Ted Cruz and Vice President JD Vance exchanged public criticism over whether Cruz is already positioning himself for a 2028 presidential run. Cruz told Politico that Vance’s comments reflected insecurity, after Vance said in an NBC News interview that Cruz was “really obvious[ly]” running for president.
Cruz said he is focused on the upcoming midterm elections and on helping Republicans keep control of Congress, while Vance said he is focused on supporting GOP candidates. Both men are viewed as possible future contenders for the Republican presidential nomination.
Cruz said he has been traveling widely to campaign for Republican candidates in several states and noted that he has also supported Vance in the past, including during Vance’s 2022 Senate race in Ohio. Vance has also been appearing at GOP events, including planned stops in Alaska and recent visits in Texas and Florida.
