Alibaba bans Anthropic AI tools for employees

Alibaba will bar employees from using Anthropic’s AI tools for work starting July 10, according to people familiar with the matter and CNBC confirmation.
The Chinese ecommerce company has placed Anthropic’s Claude Code on a highrisk software list and told staff to uninstall Anthropic models and agent products. Employees are expected to use Alibaba’s own AI assistant, Qoder, instead.
The move comes after Anthropic accused Alibaba in June of trying to extract its AI capabilities through what it described as a “distillation attack.” Anthropic also says its terms of service prohibit Chinese companies and other “adversarial nations” from using its models. Both companies declined to comment.
