FBI investigates source of jobs portal breach after hackers claim data theft

FBIJobs.gov breach raises fears over exposed employee and applicant data FBI probes the source, while experts warn of phishing and fraud risks

The FBI is investigating a breach involving its FBIJobs.gov portal and is still trying to determine whether the incident began inside the bureau or through a thirdparty provider. The agency said it is working with outside vendors to assess the situation and reduce any risk. A hacking group called ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility and alleged that it accessed personal information linked to FBI employees and applicants. Reuters reported that sample data shared by the group included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, assignments, and in some cases family details. Security experts said the confirmed scope of the incident remains unclear, and stressed that access to personnel data is different from access to classified FBI systems. They also noted that exposed work and identity information could still be used in phishing, fraud, or other targeting efforts if the claims are accurate.
