The Alberta government says about 3.4 million residents will receive a onetime, taxfree $100 energy rebate. Premier Danielle Smith announced the program in Calgary on Wednesday, saying applications will open on July 1.
To qualify, residents must have a combined household income of $225,000 or less and must have filed a 2025 tax return. The rebate will be available to eligible Albertans whether or not they drive, and the province says it will replace the fuel tax relief program.
Officials said the payment is meant to return some of the revenue collected during a period of higher energy prices. The government also noted that Alberta is projecting a $9.4 billion deficit for the 2026/27 fiscal year.
