Thailand SEC proposes retail access to overseas crypto derivatives
Thailand crypto derivatives rules could open retail access to overseas markets See how the SEC’s proposal may expand trading opportunities with stricter safeguards
Thailand’s securities regulator has opened a consultation on rules that could let retail investors access certain overseas crypto derivatives through licensed intermediaries.
Under the proposal, the products would need to closely match derivatives traded in Thailand, including the underlying asset, leverage, maturity, and settlement structure. They would also have to be listed on exchanges with central clearing and oversight from recognized regulators.
The SEC said products that do not meet these requirements would likely remain available only to institutional investors, which it considers better positioned to manage the higher risks involved. The consultation is open until Sept. 30, and no implementation date has been announced.
