B.C. and BC Hydro are reviewing options for a new hydroelectric project as the province prepares for higher electricity demand in the coming decades.
BC Hydro estimates electricity use in the province could rise by about 20% by 2030 and roughly 50% by 2050. Energy Minister Adrian Dix said the government wants to expand clean power supply while supporting growth in communities and industry.
The province is studying two possible sites, Site E on the Peace River and Homathko near Bute Inlet. BC Hydro says it is also examining nearby transmission needs, along with other energy technologies such as geothermal, biomass and battery storage.
