Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with President Donald Trump on Sunday, congratulating him on his 80th birthday and discussing efforts to end Russia's war in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said the call included talk of peace and recent developments on the battlefield, adding that Ukraine's position has improved. He also thanked the United States for its support, including weapons systems such as Javelins and Patriots.
The conversation came as Trump prepared to travel to France for the G7 summit, where he is expected to take part in discussions with Zelenskyy on Tuesday. European leaders are also expected to use the gathering to encourage renewed diplomacy between Kyiv and Moscow.
