Investigation says Amazon cargo plane was too fast before Miami crash
Amazon cargo plane crash: pilots warned of excess speed before deadly Miami impact See how cockpit recordings and investigators’ findings reveal what went wrong.
Investigators say one of the pilots aboard an Amazon cargo plane warned repeatedly that the aircraft was approaching too fast before the deadly crash in Miami on Sunday.
According to cockpit recording details released by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board on Wednesday, the warning began nearly two minutes before impact, and the pilot urged an abort at the last moment. Investigators said the other pilot did not give a consistent verbal response.
The plane overran the runway by about 1,300 feet before striking a van carrying workers at a planecleaning company and then hitting an SUV on a public road. All five people who died were in the van, and five others were injured. The two pilots survived. Investigators said the full transcript of the cockpit recording will be released later.
