A Mississauga food bank says nearly 13,000 children were among the people it served in 2025, highlighting the scale of food insecurity in the city and across Canada.
Seva Food Bank said it helped 46,373 people last year and provided more than 1 million kilograms of food across its two locations in Malton and Cooksville. Executive director Vipin Saini said rising rents, stagnant wages, and broader economic pressure are pushing more families, seniors, newcomers, and working people to seek help.
Food Banks Mississauga said many households are now relying on food bank support every month rather than only during occasional emergencies. The organization and researchers are urging governments to address the underlying affordability problems driving demand for food assistance.
