Markham is set to host the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy from Aug. 14 to 16, with city officials saying preparations are largely complete ahead of the first race weekend in a fiveyear agreement.
The 3.52kilometre street circuit will run near Unionville GO station, York University’s Markham campus and the Markham Pan Am Centre. The city says it has finished the road work it was responsible for, including pit lanes, road widening and resurfacing, while event organizers are now building grandstands and track barriers.
Organizers expect about 150,000 visitors over the threeday event. Local hotel groups say bookings are improving, and the city is hoping the race will support restaurants, hotels and other businesses across the region. Attendees are being asked to use transit or plan ahead for road closures and parking.
