President Donald Trump said Saturday that the war between Russia and Ukraine has continued to cause heavy losses, citing estimated monthly casualty figures during remarks at the White House. He said he recently spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and wants both sides to reach a deal soon.
Trump said he has urged Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the conflict, adding that he hopes progress could come before winter. His comments came as U.S. officials continue diplomatic efforts involving talks with both Kyiv and Moscow.
Zelenskyy also said Friday that Trump had approved a plan allowing Ukraine to license and produce U.S. Patriot missile interceptors, marking a policy shift from his earlier position.
