A cargo ship was attacked by multiple small craft while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. The vessel was traveling northbound about 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, Iran.
UKMTO said the crew was reported safe and no environmental damage had been identified. Authorities advised nearby vessels to proceed with caution while the incident is investigated.
The attack happened near a key global shipping route that connects the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. No group has claimed responsibility, and officials have not publicly identified the vessel in the initial alert.
