Raptors pause Kawhi Leonard trade amid NBA investigation

The Toronto Raptors have put a proposed blockbuster trade for Kawhi Leonard on hold while the NBA continues its investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers. According to the team, league officials told Toronto it could bear the risk of any outcome tied to the probe, prompting the Raptors to wait for the review to finish before moving forward. The reported deal would send Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, multiple draft picks and a pick swap to the Clippers for Leonard. The investigation centers on allegations that Leonard received a $28 million endorsement arrangement from Aspiration, a financial technology company, without performing work beyond staying with the Clippers. Leonard has not been charged with wrongdoing. The Clippers said they believe the NBA review will clear the franchise. Leonard, who led Toronto to its 2019 title before leaving in free agency, recently attended Kyle Lowry’s retirement ceremony in the city as talks continued.
