Valery Fabrikant dies in prison at 86

Valery Fabrikant, the former Concordia University professor convicted of killing four colleagues in Montreal in 1992, has died in prison at age 86. Correctional Service Canada said he died of apparent natural causes at Archambault Institution in Quebec. Fabrikant had been serving a life sentence since 1993 after the shooting, which also injured a secretary. Fabrikant had repeatedly been denied parole and had failed in later appeals for a reduced sentence. He had argued his colleagues stole his work before the attack, while authorities said he continued to deny targeting innocent people.
