Israel’s defense minister said the Israel Defense Forces captured Hamas’ head of general security during a raid in Gaza. An Israeli security official identified the commander as Mu’in alArabid and said he was arrested during an incursion deep inside the territory, with airstrikes used to cover the withdrawal.
The defense minister said the operation was part of Israel’s broader effort to target Hamas leadership and destroy militant infrastructure in Gaza. He said Israeli forces would remain in the area until Hamas is disarmed and underground tunnels are eliminated.
The raid came as the Trump administration continued to press Hamas to disarm and give up control of Gaza. Jared Kushner also recently discussed the need for Hamas to follow through on ceasefirerelated commitments, while U.S.led plans for Gaza have centered on a phased truce, demilitarization, and reconstruction.
