A Montreal resident has won a $5 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot after first thinking his ticket was worth only $5,000. LotoQuébec said Pierre Draws was the sole winner of the July 4 Classic Jackpot.
Draws said he checked the ticket on the LotoQuébec mobile app and was surprised to learn the prize was much larger than he expected. He described the moment as emotional when he collected the cheque at LotoQuébec headquarters.
The retired man, who is in his 60s, said his first major purchase will be a home, which he had previously considered out of reach. The winning ticket was bought at BoniSoir–Marché Bachir on Baldwin Avenue in Montreal’s Anjou borough, and the retailer will receive a $50,000 commission.
