Warren and Kelly question Trump administration on tariff effects

Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Mark Kelly have asked the Trump administration to explain how tariffs are affecting U.S. manufacturing, jobs, and the broader economy. In a letter sent Monday to the U.S. trade representative, treasury secretary, and commerce secretary, the senators said the White House’s trade approach has not delivered the manufacturing revival President Donald Trump promised. The lawmakers argued that tariff policy has contributed to manufacturing job losses and has failed to stop companies from shifting production abroad. They pointed to data and examples they say show weaker factory investment, fewer manufacturing jobs, and a larger deficit in physical goods. Warren and Kelly also said tariffs are raising costs for families and small businesses. They asked the administration to explain why the manufacturing goods deficit has increased and what steps it plans to take to address the industry’s decline.
