Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the GTA

GTA weather statement warns of heavy rain, thunderstorms and flooding risk Stay alert as roads, riverbanks and low spots may flood through Sunday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto Area, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms beginning late Saturday and continuing through Sunday evening. The agency said some areas could receive more than 50 millimetres of rain. Repeated showers and thunderstorms may cause water to pool on roads and in lowlying areas, while visibility could drop suddenly at times. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority also issued a flood outlook until noon Monday, saying river levels could rise if significant rainfall develops. It advised people to stay away from riverbanks, streams and shorelines, and to avoid driving through flooded areas.
