Ford accuses Stiles of Trump-style rhetoric after prison remark
Ontario politics: Ford blasts Stiles over prison comment and Greenbelt inquiry See why Queen’s Park sparred over Trump-style rhetoric, accountability, and tone
Ontario Premier Doug Ford accused NDP Leader Marit Stiles of using “Trumpstyle” rhetoric after she suggested he could end up in prison if the NDP forms government after the next provincial election.
Stiles made the comment while speaking with reporters at Queen’s Park on Monday and said she would launch a public inquiry into the Ford government if her party wins power. Ford said her remarks were unacceptable and argued they crossed a line in the legislature.
Stiles defended her comments and pointed to the RCMP’s ongoing Greenbelt investigation, saying the government should be more concerned about the allegations facing it. Other political leaders also criticized the tone of the exchange, saying polarizing language can lower the standard of debate at Queen’s Park.
