Toronto police say two people found in burning vehicles were killed before the fires

Toronto police probe two fatal car fires across the city Separate burning vehicles, one rented and one stolen, raise homicide concerns

Toronto police say two people found in separate burning vehicles in different parts of the city earlier this week were killed before their vehicles were set on fire. One victim was identified as 32yearold Marcus Charles of Scarborough. Police said he was found after firefighters responded to a vehicle fire near Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue East on Monday night. About an hour later, emergency crews found another body in a burning car near James Gardens in Etobicoke. Police said the second victim has not yet been identified because the body was badly burned. Investigators have not confirmed whether the two homicides are connected and say there is no broader public safety risk. The first vehicle was rented, and the second was reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area.
