A food bank in Lévis, Quebec, says it suffered about $30,000 in losses and damages after copper wires connected to its refrigeration system were cut and stolen.
Comptoir Le Grenier said the incident caused roughly $10,000 in spoiled food and another $20,000 in repair costs. The nonprofit, which helps about 450 families each week, had to throw out all frozen food after the freezers stopped working.
The organization closed for the day to clean out the equipment and prepare for repairs. Lévis police said they were called Monday morning and are investigating, but no suspect or motive has been confirmed.
