Darline Graham was sworn in on Tuesday as South Carolina's first female senator after the sudden death of her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham.
She was appointed by Gov. Henry McMaster, with support from President Donald Trump and conversations with Sen. Tim Scott, to serve as an interim caretaker for the seat through January.
Graham said she plans to continue her brother's work and support the president while serving the people of South Carolina and the United States. The move also sets up a special election scheduled for Aug. 11 to choose a permanent replacement.
