Hundreds of casino workers strike in Ajax and Pickering
Casino Ajax strike hits Pickering Casino Resort as 900 workers demand equal pay See how the walkout could affect casino services while talks continue and casinos stay open
About 900 workers at Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort went on strike on Friday after union members rejected a tentative deal earlier in the week.
Unifor Local 1090 says workers, including housekeepers, cashiers, security guards and table games dealers, are seeking pay equal to employees in similar roles at other Great Canadian Entertainment casinos in the Greater Toronto Area.
Union leaders said wage differences remain the main issue in the talks. The company said it is disappointed an agreement was not reached, but the casinos will stay open while negotiations continue and some services may be affected.
