Rescuers use ziplines to move survivors after Nepal floods and landslides

Nepal rescue teams use cable cars and ziplines to reach flood-stranded residents See how crews are crossing shattered river valleys as search efforts continue

Rescue teams in Nepal have been using cable cars and ziplines to move stranded people after deadly floods and mudslides destroyed bridges in the affected area. Video from Nuwakot shows workers pulling ropes to transport residents across a flooded river, including people carried in a small box suspended from a wire. The efforts come after the Aug. 26 disaster hit parts of Nepal and neighboring China, leaving widespread damage in river valleys and mountain areas. Officials in Nepal say more than 1,100 people have been confirmed dead and nearly 4,000 are still missing. In China, authorities have reported additional deaths and dozens of people missing. Rescue crews are also searching for people believed to be trapped in a hydropower tunnel in Rasuwa district.
