President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Bill Pulte will serve as acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard.
Trump highlighted Pulte’s work leading the Federal Housing Finance Agency and overseeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In his announcement, Trump said Pulte has experience handling sensitive matters and managing more than $10 trillion in assets tied to the mortgage firms.
Pulte will keep his FHFA role and remain chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while serving in the intelligence post. Gabbard is set to leave the job on June 30 after saying she is stepping down to support her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer. If Trump later nominates Pulte for the permanent position, he would need Senate confirmation.
