Ryan Wedding murder trial delayed until 2027
Ryan Wedding trial delayed until 2027 as murder and drug charges mount Judge cites complex evidence and fugitives in the global case; see what’s next
The murder trial of accused drug trafficker Ryan Wedding has been postponed until October 2027 after a U.S. judge agreed the case is unusually large and complex. The trial had been expected to start next month in Los Angeles.
Wedding, a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder, has pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to export cocaine and murder. Prosecutors say the case involves extensive evidence, multiple countries, and several codefendants, some of whom remain fugitives or are still fighting extradition.
The murder charges are linked to the 2023 killings of Jagtar and Harbhajan Sidhu in Caledon, Ontario, and the 2024 killing of Mohammed Zafar in Brampton, Ontario. Wedding was arrested in Mexico in January after years on the run, and his lawyer says he does not expect a plea deal.
