Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation gets a landmark $100M gift for cancer care Support research, earlier detection and treatment as the $2.5B campaign gains momentum

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation says it has received a $100 million donation from an anonymous donor, describing it as a landmark gift. The announcement came Tuesday as the foundation launched its $2.5 billion Carry the Fire campaign, which aims to support cancer research, treatment and care. Chief executive Dr. Miyo Yamashita said the donation is the largest single investment in cancer research, education and care in Canada. According to the foundation, the money will help fund earlier cancer detection, new treatment approaches and services such as rehabilitation and mental health support. The donor was not named, but the foundation said the person had a personal connection to cancer. Cancer patient Annie Raimondo said the campaign gives her hope, and Yamashita said the foundation had raised $1.061 billion for the campaign as of Tuesday night.
