WestJet strike leaves N.B. travellers stranded overseas

Travellers from New Brunswick are facing cancelled flights and uncertain return plans after a WestJet cabin crew strike disrupted service across the airline’s network. In Lisbon, a Miramichi couple says they have been left to cover extra hotel costs while waiting for WestJet to rebook them. In Copenhagen, two Scouts Canada groups from the Quispamsis and Rothesay areas are also stuck overseas, with leaders trying to arrange safe travel home for teenagers and younger members. WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees said Monday they reached a tentative deal to end the strike, but the airline warned that it will take several days to fully restore operations. WestJet is advising customers to confirm flight status before heading to the airport and to watch for emails or texts about rebookings or refunds.
