The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning will decide their firstround playoff series in Game 7 on Sunday in Tampa, Florida, after Tampa Bay forced a final game with a 10 overtime win in Game 6.
Gage Goncalves scored the only goal 9:03 into overtime, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 30 shots in a strong goaltending performance. Montreal had a chance to close out the series at home but could not score despite a solid effort.
The series has been extremely close, with six of the first six games decided by one goal and four overtimes already played. Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said the loss can still serve as a valuable step for his young group, while captain Nick Suzuki said the team needs to stay positive heading into the winnertakeall game.
