Woman shot dead in Etobicoke, suspect arrested: police

Toronto police investigate fatal Etobicoke shooting after suspect arrest Homicide unit probes targeted attack; witnesses and video could help the case

Toronto police say a woman was fatally shot in Etobicoke on Friday morning and a suspect has since been arrested. Officers were called to the area of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard around 7:23 a.m. Police said the shooting happened in a public area, not inside a home, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts to save her life. Her identity has not been released because next of kin have not yet been notified. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and say the homicide unit has taken over the case. Police used drones and a K9 unit during the search for the suspect, while residents in the area can expect a larger police presence as investigators look for witnesses, evidence and video footage. A witness told CBC the woman and man appeared to have a brief interaction before the shooting, after which the man fled. Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
