The Toronto Maple Leafs have appointed Andy O'Brien as vicepresident of sport performance, the club announced Monday.
O'Brien will be responsible for strength and conditioning, sport science, nutrition, injury rehabilitation and mental performance across the NHL team. He previously worked as a consultant for the Florida Panthers and spent six years with the Pittsburgh Penguins in sports science and performance roles.
The 48yearold Charlottetown native has also served as a personal trainer for Sidney Crosby and has been part of four Stanley Cupwinning teams during his time with Florida and Pittsburgh. The move is part of a wider organizational overhaul under general manager John Chayka, who said the team is investing in player care and performance after missing the playoffs last season.
