More B.C. communities face wildfire threats

Several communities in British Columbia are under threat as multiple wildfires continue to spread across the province. The SquamishLillooet Regional District issued a new evacuation order overnight for part of Electoral Area A in the South Chilcotin Mountains. An evacuation alert was also issued early Thursday for the Texas Creek area south of Lillooet in Electoral Area B. In the southern Interior, residents of Clinton and nearby areas were already dealing with evacuation orders and alerts after a wildfire grew to more than 100 square kilometres. Kimberley remains under evacuation alert because of a nearby cluster of fires, and officials in Boston Bar have urged residents still in the area to leave. The BC Wildfire Service says more than 80 fires are burning actively in the province. Hot, dry conditions and limited precipitation are expected to continue this week, increasing the risk of new fires, while smoky skies may persist or worsen in parts of northeastern and central B.C.
