Matthews reflects on Maple Leafs' summer of change

Maple Leafs offseason: Matthews backs Chayka as Toronto retools for a rebound See how the roster and coaching changes could spark a better season

TORONTO — Auston Matthews said he wanted time to take in a busy offseason before speaking about it publicly. The Maple Leafs are coming off their worst season in 10 years, and the organization has made major changes since May. Matthews addressed reporters at training camp on Wednesday and said he supports new general manager John Chayka after a fastmoving 19week stretch. Matthews, who is recovering from knee surgery, said the team has improved its roster and coaching staff. Toronto opens the regular season on Sept. 29 at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
