Toronto begins cleanup after major storm brings flooding

Toronto storm cleanup as flooding and outages ease across the city See how Toronto restored transit, power, and roads after severe rain

Toronto officials say cleanup work is underway and services are returning to normal after a severe storm brought heavy rain, hail, flooding, and power outages to the city on Wednesday evening. The storm caused the Don River to overflow, flooding roads and homes and forcing parts of the Don Valley Parkway to close. Transit and ferry service were also interrupted, while tens of thousands of residents lost power at the peak of the storm. By Thursday morning, most power had been restored and major city services were back online, according to Mayor Olivia Chow and city manager Paul Johnson. Officials said the amount of rainfall met Toronto’s definition of a 100year storm, and they are still handling service requests and floodrelated issues across the city.
