OpenAI outlines support for U.S. national science initiatives

OpenAI said it will expand its work with the U.S. government, National Laboratories, universities, and researchers to support scientific research with frontier AI tools. The company framed the effort as part of a broader push to connect advanced models with the computing systems, facilities, and workflows used in American science. As part of the Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission, OpenAI plans to provide access to Codex, API support for large scientific campaigns, and additional usage credits for participating researchers. The company also said selected nationallab researchers in eligible biology projects will receive access to GPTRosalind, and some cybersecurity researchers will get expanded access to advanced defensive capabilities. OpenAI said the initiative builds on earlier collaborations with National Laboratories, including testing models on scientific problems and deploying reasoning models on the Venado supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The company said the goal is to help researchers test ideas faster, validate results more efficiently, and support longterm U.S. scientific capacity.
