Stocks move in premarket trading as earnings, deals, and guidance drive gains and losses
Pre-market movers: Darden, MGM and BlackBerry react to earnings and deals See the catalysts behind the biggest stock moves and what may matter at the open
Several companies saw notable moves before the opening bell on Thursday as investors reacted to earnings reports, takeover activity, and updated outlooks.
Darden Restaurants fell after reporting quarterly results that were mostly in line with expectations, while MGM Resorts dropped sharply after Barry Diller's People withdrew its proposal to acquire the casino operator. BlackBerry rose after posting results that beat analyst estimates on both earnings and revenue.
Meta slipped after a strong week for the stock, even as CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled new products tied to the company's AI and virtual reality plans. Other movers included Knife River, which gained after a report that Starboard Value had built a stake, and Everpure, which climbed after issuing preliminary 2028 guidance that topped forecasts. Gold miners traded lower as gold futures weakened.
